About

Girl In Papertown is a blog created to inspire female travellers to live abroad and explore hidden gems and non-tourist locations to have more authentic and unforgettable experiences.

Hi everyone!

I’m Viola, the blogger behind Girl In Papertown.

I’m a Polish expat who has been living in the UK since 2015. England has always fascinated me, and that’s one of the reasons I decided to move to the UK soon after I finished secondary school.

I decided to create this blog to share my experience of living abroad, as well as show you beautiful and less known places around the UK.

My story

I never planned to stay in the city I was born in. My goal was to go to university in one of the coastal cities in Poland and settle there eventually. I haven’t had enough confidence to even dream about moving abroad. Life had other plans for me though and at 19 years old, I found myself moving abroad.

Beginnings were difficult. Even though I passed the Matura exam in English (A-level equivalent) with an almost perfect score, I struggled a lot with my language skills. Everything was overwhelmingly new – new culture, new city, new life…

During the time I spent living here, I grew up, and my perspective has changed drastically. I was finally able to travel, see new things, live in many different places. Since then, I started to be more and more curious about the world around me. There is nothing better than finding hidden gems in the area you thought you know like the back of your hand.

I hope to inspire you and motivate you to go out of the comfort zone and try new things.

Cheers to new experiences!

Viola xx
